1897

Born in Atchison, Kansas

Born to Samuel "Edwin" Stanton Earhart and Amelia "Amy" Otis. A tomboy known as "Meeley", she collected worms and hunted rats.

1920

First Flight

Took her first ride in an airplane at Long Beach. "As soon as we left the ground, I knew I myself had to fly."

1928

Passenger Across the Atlantic

Became the first woman to cross the Atlantic by air (as a passenger). She later wrote "20 Hrs. 40 Min." about the experience.

1932

Solo Transatlantic Flight

Flying her red Lockheed Vega 5B, she became the first woman to fly solo nonstop across the Atlantic, landing in Northern Ireland.

1935

Hawaii to California

First person to fly solo from Honolulu, Hawaii, to Oakland, California.

1937

The Final Flight

Departed on an attempt to circumnavigate the globe near the equator. Disappeared on July 2 near Howland Island.
